The game editor is supposed to be included within the actual engine for the game, sort of like Serious Sam's.

At first John Carmack wasn't doing to do that because he wasn't sure if he could get the same performance in making the editor integrated into the game. But I recall reading an interview where he said that he was able to get it optimized enough to not really impact the game's performance -- so the editor should be included/built right into the game. This means that when you're building a level, you should be able to see fog effects, lighting, and all that jazz without having to compile the level and then 'load' it up into the game. This month's PCGamer magazine had a pretty cool article on it.

I am also waiting avidly for the game. Jeez not another editor. lol I wish those game companies would standardize a little bit. Then just code addons for the extra stuff.
I remember when the first Doom came out I had a Compaq 66 mhz machine and someone gave me the demo on 5 floppies. I played the demo for like 6 months. What a blast.

dont worry guys.. if you've been here with me to learn the sof1 and sof2 editor... then you will be thankful. DOOMIII (unofficially) will be using a version of radiant to edit the maps. Nothing could be finer.... :casanova:

as a matter of fact i did a little research and found that the editor as of now will be shipped with the game and will be automatically installed with the game.
they didnt get into detail with mp gametypes but they said that MP will be basic gametypes.
(im guessing DM,CTF,TDM)
The game itself will also be using alot of static meshes similar to UT, so expect alot of models to use as prefabs :) .
as of now thats all thats been said.
And yes it will be using a type of radiant program, you can see that in the movie where he was using radiant to make the level, woohoo.

It's good that they are using tools that we already know how to use and or familiar with but I sure hope they include all or at least most of the functions that go with radiant.

I just don't want to be disappointed like I was with another game tool.

Cheers
