Memory is usually fine, especially from a reputable manufacturer like Crucial. Asus has only tested about a dozen modules. The Crucial memory checker shows that the modules above are compatible.

I have thrown a few emails at the company and found the memory should be fine with that board i also spoke to a guy in the forums who uses the same motherboard and memory combo and he also confirmed it works. Thank pedro for also confirming this.

Thanks though foyle, i would have overlooked that otherwise and been really annoyed if it came down to installing everything to find memory stopping the p.o.s.t test on power up.

I have now been swayed to this CPU what do you think? I'm not sure if it will better in the long run or not.

More and more apps are able to use multi-core cpus these days. If you can afford it I don't see any reason not to go for it, provided it works in the motherboard (which it should in any AM3 boards - its the AM2+ ones that have trouble).

I've seen a few comments about it being a good overclocker as well (~4GHz). It is a bit slower per core, so it does kind of depend on the sort of applications you might be running.

Personally I still game a lot and would probably go for the X4 instead as games either don't support that many cores (and many only utilise one which is where the higher clock speed would pay off) and those that do (such as BC2) tend to be limited by your graphics card instead.

If likely applications are well threaded (such as video encoding) then you would see much better performance with the X6

After a lot of research and question i have come up with this;

Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory Kit CL9 1.5V

As for the 6 core, i obviously love to game but the 'turbo core' technology of that processor is suppose to reduce the mhz of the idle core(s) by up to 800 (something like that) in order to increase the cores which have a heavy load, i have also read due to the very low temp which can be as low as 30*c under load it can easy be clocked to 4.0.

But multitasking is where i need the power, i often have multiple programs such as VLC, web browsers, editors and games open at the same time, i also run LAN server often so i thinki will benifit from the 6 cores.

By your suggest i changed the mobo to a gigabyte board, not many reviews but the specs make it look quite future proof to me, with 2 USB 3.0 , 8 USB 2.0, DualBIOS and more than enough SATA ports.

If you or anyone notices something wrong with this set up please speak up

Below are not show stoppers, just possible issues...

The motherboard only has a single pcie slot for video. If you wanted a second video card for more than 2 monitors you will need a pci card with this motherboard. Also you will not get crossfire support here. For me, I need at least 3 monitors to work.

There are plenty of sata ports, but I wouldn't call them future proof. The future is 6Gb/s and these are only 3Gb/s. To me, this doesn't matter because my idea of "future" for my computers is 1.5 years.

Along the same lines as the sata issue, there is no support for USB 3.0. Not an issue today, but more and more products are being release with such specs.

Your right foyle the single PCie was a bit of a let down but i couldn't find anything in the same price range offering the same or similar spec without then reading some horrible review about it. The monitor isn't too big a deal because i run my pc from a 40" LCD tv so when multi-tasking the size of the screen allows me to split it into 4 as see each clearly.

The SATA ports only seem to be 6gb/s in the 800series boards which then have the price bumped up to around 100+GBP. Most of my drives are externals connected via USB it's only my C drive and boot drive that run from SATA at the moment.

In your opinion would you see this as a problem? or do you think it will be ok for a few years? If not, i know you only use intel (booo) but have you seen any amd boards worth looking at?

I don't buy AMD so I don't have other suggestions for boards.

And aside from the AMD issue, the only reason I wouldn't consider your board is the video card issue (not enough). I have no problems with the 3Gb/s sata or the USB 2.0 at this time.

As a matter of fact, I just bought a motherboard for my brother with those same sata and usb specs.
