I'm attempting to make a custom decal.

I'm using Photoshop.
I have the .dds plugin for saving as.

My problem is my decal is not a decal. It does not have the transparent properties, and in Radiant, it does not act as a decal, it acts as a texture. (Meaning if I put it on a texture it flickers, not like a decal would on top of a texture.)

What am I doing wrong? [crazy]

I have found no documentation on how to save in PS using alpha channels. I found a tutorial on what to do in Assman to convert, but that's it. Here

- I have my texture, open it in PS.
- The background is transparent.
- I create a Alpha channel for my image by holding (ctrl+clicking thumbnail to make selection) then adding new alpha channel from selection.
- If I try to save this as a .dds it tells me "too many channels to export(5)" Some people say to first flatten the image, save it with alpha channels as a .tga, then reopen the .tga and save it as .dds. No matter what, if I flatten it, I lose my transparent image.
- Some people say to save it as .tga 32bit with alpha, but again, that turns my transparent background to white and in radiant, what is supposed to be transparent is white.

Basically, everything is working fine except I cannot get it to show up as transparent in Radiant, and don't know what I'm doing wrong in PS to fix that.

Any ideas?

Some settings I have in my COD4 Assman for "italy_metal_mskd_rail-01" from UO are:

materialType: world phong
sort: decal - static decal <-----

blendFunc: Replace*
cullFace: Back*
polygonOffset: None*
alphaTest: GE128 <----
dethTest: LessEqual*
depthWrite: < auto >*
tessSize: 0

(Note: the ( * ) after some settings denotes default)

Thanks for the response.

Everything he does in that video is what I did, only the part he skips, is the most important part [cool]

He says he exports the .dds. I don't even know what that means. Saves as a .dds? You can't export a .dds file in photoshop.

Every time I try to save a .dds file with a Alpha channel it tells me
"too many channels to export(5)".

And that is huge, if I can just save the file, I can move on, but I don't know what the issue is here.

Still had to flatten the image after I created the Alpha Channel.

Thanks for the settings. It appears to have worked using the settings you gave. I'll mess with it more, appreciate the help! [wave]

I just need the image not to flicker when it is directly on another texture.

I'm allways using 32 bit tga format to making decal textures. Assman converts them to iwi anyways.

If Your texture is flickering move it slightly away from a main brush.
