Hi, I have a Problem with Skinning.

I have made a Skin for a dead cow, it looks now something violett and white....[biggrin]

I placed that skin under its original name cow_brown into my map pk3.

now the cow looks what I want it to look like, but all cows on other maps look the same...somehow clear...

Is there a way I can make the cow only look like this in my map?
And I guess I have to make new modelfiles...what is it about? (xanim, xmodel, xmodelparts...I cant open those files cause I dont know which programm to use)

Would be very thankfull for help!

Yes, you will need to make a new model file. (or convert the stock one)

I can provide a full answer if you are still looking for how this is done.
Might be quite a long response, but it's not actually very difficult to create custom models & skins for UO. Might take me a few days to put together a response if you are still interesting in having a violet and white cow in your map [lol]

When you change a skin on a stock model and add the new skin to your pk3, it is technically a mod and will change the texture on all maps that use that model (as you discovered). Hence why you need to create a new model if you only want it changed on one map.

I recently made a low polygon static Mark iv tank for a friends map from scratch, i'm sure converting a stock model is a similar process.

Edit: If fact if found a perfectly good tutorial on some weird site: http://modsonline.com/Tutorials-read-208.html?start=

you need: http://modsonline.com/Downloads-dl-2424.html

You also need http://diegologic.net/CoD/XmodelExporter.htm to convert the cow into obj, then you can import the obj in milkshape, rename it and attached skin/texture then use the tutorial to get the model ingame

Would have save myself alot of trouble learning the hard way if id see that tutorial a few months ago [banghead]
