As for the waterfalls. They came from a stock fx, that I modified. Both waterfalls are a little different. Well, there are 3, but two of them are the same effect.
I either used one of the cargoship_sinking stock effects or some type of water gush, I don't remember what I used for the base.

I think the darkness you see is just the video. There are only a few dark spots indoors. I wanted the player to have to use the nightvision inside the houses in certain areas. My reason for the skybox and its color is only because of the fog I used. I wanted to match the Skybox and the ExpFog without having to edit the fog, yeah I know, I'm lazy.
Also if you are going to test it, there are "13" map Dvars so be sure you set the map up to have it how you want it. There is a config file included with instructions and what each one does. That is, if you don't like the default setup.

There are only two maps I really like and that was Citi Farm and Citi Badlands. Probably because I'm so critical. If I could go back I would fix up all the old maps and make them better.
