Well I just ran into my first problem with my build. My case has 4 fans built in and my MB only has 2 connections for case fans. All are 3 pin. I'm leery of connecting 2 fans to each MB connection because of the initial power draw. Does anyone know a way around this?

There are various adapters that will let you use other power connections for fans if you have a spare one. I would imagine this kind of model should work for you but do some research to be sure, and that your fan speed voltages will work with them.

Those adapters came with the case and since they don't plug directly into the PSU I have to use another adapter(more wires). Also, If I used that, wouldn't I have to shut the PSU off each time I shut the computer off?

If I used a 3 wire to 3 wire Y connector like this one:

It would probably mess up the signal that the MB uses to regulate fan speed. But could I just cut one of the leads going to the second fan so that doesn't happen?

I'm pretty sure the newegg example uses the same power plugs that say a CDR would use, so it should shut off normally also. But I havent used such a plug... just considered them when I built my own computer. Ended up that it didnt get hot enough to need the extra fan based on my usage. Perhaps someone here who has actually used them could say.

I do agree about more wires and getting rid of IDE cables sure helped, but for the guts of a computer thats SOP isnt it.

Yeah, older versions I think. Anyway I went to a local store (CompUSA) and found the 3wire to 3wire Y connector. However one side was 2 wire which solved my question about cutting one wire so the MB won't get confused. As soon as I put my HD in I'll find out if it works. I just hope I'm not overloading the header with 2 fans.

Good luck. I suspect there wont be any problems unless your fans are high powered or splitters wouldnt sell much.

Okay, done and it's working. I had no problems sorting out the MB settings and loading up the OS. SO I guess if a Gomer can do it anyone can!
