Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward is a little bit smaller today, as two more longtime employees have left the embattled studio. Veteran programmer Jon Shiring and designer Mackey McCandlish have parted ways with the home of Modern Warfare.

Shiring announced his resignation from the Encino-based Infinity Ward via Twitter, as spotted by 1UP, saying "After almost 6 years at Infinity Ward, I resigned today. I'm incredibly proud of everything we accomplished and I'm going to miss everyone." He follows fired co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella—now leading Respawn Entertainment, and recently departed lead designer Todd Alderman and lead software engineer Francesco Gigliotti.

Shiring worked at Infinity Ward for five years, 11 months, according to his LinkedIn profile, departing the same day that Zampella and West announced their new studio backed by Electronic Arts, Call of Duty publisher Activision's chief rival.

The bleeding of key talent at the Modern Warfare developer doesn't stop there, as we've been told another development lead on the team has also quit the studio. Modern Warfare 2 lead designer Mackey McCandlish gave his goodbyes to his Infinity Ward cohorts earlier today via Facebook. McCandlish was with the developer for eight years, one of the IW team members credited with additional writing duties.

That makes Infinity Ward at least six longtime employees shorter as of March 1 way beyond a trend.

Update: This story has been updated to reflect the departure of former Infinity Ward staffer Mackey McCandlish.

That makes 6 important developers to leave in the wake of West and Zampella getting fired. I seriously dont think that any more Call of Duty titles from Infinity Ward will be anything like what we have seen before.

What with Franceso Gigliotti and Jon Shiring gone, 2 of the principle designers of the fantastic COD2/COD4 engine (Gigliotti was engineer lead and Shiring was senior programer), now Respawn Entertainment have the full set of "brains" behind what made COD2/COD4 what it was. They could quite easily design their own version of the engine and produce another kick-ass title.

Say what you will about the IWNet debarcle, if you're a long time fan of the COD franchise like I am, you should be mourning this day as its the end of an era.

R.I.P COD

You should apply for a position at Respawn, DemonSeed.

Also, we don't know if they joined Respawn yet. According to 1Up, Shiring is only saying he has resigned and no other announcement.

sounds like a good thing...

all the top talent from IW going to an independant company where the publisher can't stick their nose in.

serves activision right tbh, they've milked the cow so hard its tits have fallen off! [biggrin]

For me, the CoD franchise has been dead for years. CoDW@W is a cheap ripoff of MW, while MW2 is a joke, a game made for 12 years old retard kids.

I'm glad those guys quit, because developers think they can do whatever they want to their employees.

I can't wait to see what's going to be Respawn's first game.

They should do something like MOHAA and make it better.

Yeah, and Cod2 was cheap ripoff of COD1 and UO... WaW added TONS more then either UO or COD2 added, yet you slate that game? Nice 1 mate.

Also, it was the publisher who fucked with IW, not the developers.

I am also excited to see what their first game will be, not much to pick from in era's... WW2 they have over done... modern warfare would be a joke because it could never top MW2, especially with a new brand name that 60% of people wont even know about.

Love how this goes from talk about two more leaving IW to bashing developers and games made.

Whats happening at Infinity Ward just goes to show that the top guys there were unhappy with how things were being done and desired to move on. I believe there is a good chance they would make the move to joining Respawn Entertainment, but we will just have to wait and see.

As for their next title, it will be an FPS as that is what they are best at creating. Speculating on what it could possibly encompass will not be hard in aspect of time WW2 Modern Futuristic

As to how successful the game will be depends only on how well they create the game and what features they will decide to put into it. These guys came from making MOH to creating a groundbreaking new game called COD which enhanced WW2 combat for the PC, so their is no doubt they have the potential to make another new and unique game that will sweep the world.
