Yuo can make your map BIG. The size is basically unlimited. But there is a limit to how many brushes and/or models you can use in your map.

How big were you thinking on making our map? mp_hurtgen is pretty big for instance.

most maps are surprisingly restricted and small. The trick is to build the map so that it looks liek its part of something huge. Think, for example, of Carentan. When you think of the entire map, and view it from above, it's actually pretty small. However, its LOOKS big. for that reason, well, I don't really need to go into this.

If you are planning to build an entire city, forget it. Build maybe a block or two and add fake buildings outsid ethe borders to make the map seem bigger.

AFIK - the mapping is restricted to the size of the editor grid

it is NOT infinite, but your brushcount, visdata size, and other things need to be taken into consideration when you are creating large projects[angryalien]

there is one, and only one, builder to make maps for CoD. That is: Radiant. In theory yes, it is possible to make that city. I shudder to think how long it would take or how painstaking the proccess would be, but you should be able to make it. You'll have some trouble with fps of people playing your maps, but portaling should reduce some of that. Go ahead and try. If its too big, take out the bad spots.

It shouldn't (and won't) make a difference which program you use for compiling the map, because all the compiler programs do is make a .bat file and run q3map.exe (the actual compile program).

Hey Watcher, when you showed me that picture before I thought you were just going to make a map of that part of the city up to a few streets in from the river. While that would make a big city map, as long as you don't make too many of the buildings open and don't go too far in it should all fit.
