forget the doom and gloom...

has there ever been so many mods/maps being made (and finished!) for the older cods?!

awe, ace, star wars, rgn vietnam, namwaw, ax_base assault, demon, OW, rising etc etc etc.....

IW may have tried to screw the PC community...

all i see is us giving them the finger! [cool]

long may it continue! [rocking]

But so many "big name" modders retired - Bulletworm gone, Tally gone, Marc from ACE gone, the Openwarfare team (probably the largest mod in the COD community) gone.

There may be a few projects going on, but I truely fear for the future of COD modding. It's all up to Treyarch, but if their next outing is crap, or doesnt capture the imagination, or doesnt have dedicated servers, then I say its all over bar the Fat Lady singing.

This site, and many others, will be like a Ghost Town (notice how quite it is already?). Old titles may be good for the beginner looking for a challenge, but for those of us who dont see a challenge in them, we look to something new. And what if one doesnt come along?

I had hoped that BC2 would introduce mod tools somewhere down the line, and now it sounds like they "may" release some later on in the year. But without dedicated servers, how the hell would you test your mod? Also, with the ranked server system, who would play them?

The same applies to the new Medal of Honor - if its like Battlefield and has the ranked servers system and no dedicated servers files, whats the point in mod tools?

No, my friend. The doom and gloom remains until that elusive Saviour of the modding community comes along.

I don't understamd why a developer/pub wouldn't want to support mods, i mean after a while any game become stale, you play the same old maps with he same old gametype then people will get bored and look for the next 'best thing'. So if the community can modify aspect of a game to keep people playing it then why not support it?! At the end of the day, it's still there game, it just not how it was out of the box.

I must admit with you Demon, this site is now very quite, it was once so busy it was hard to keep up on all new threads, but i would say since the news of MW2 it became more and more quite, probably due to a lot people not wanting to mod older games, and mw2 having no 'moddable' features.

We have tried to push L4D but too be honest, i don't see enough people yet that recognise it as having good potential to mod, which is shame

People will always retire....putting the time involved in this sorta thing can't go on forever. (unfortunately!) real life will always come around! Theres always been fresh blood to take over....

The failure of MW2 seems to be pushing people back to 4 & 5, whilst the maps/mods for those are maturing! [cool]

I honestly can't remember the quality of custom content being this good! The extra year seems to have made all the difference...[thumbs_up]

tbh, i can't see activision letting treyarch give the support they did last time....and if so, i can see it being way after they've made their money on mappacks etc..

We gotta enjoy whats out there! It probably won't ever be this good for quality/choice ever again, especially if the money grabbers get their way...

Keep playing, Keep modding! [biggrin]

I hope youre right FAFFER....but I doubt it. I made quite a few sniper no cross maps for WaW and would have continued but the activity has fallen off so dramatically I've stopped completely until I see what the future holds.

So what other game is there to map for using the umteen hours I have put into learning Radiant???

This really sucks....I still drive around town and see scenes that my mind automatically starts figuring out how to map...terrain that looks cool....old buidlings...train yards...gritty city streets....

Sad days ahead for mappers.....modders too!

Seems like a pretty good time to me. My MW2 projects will go to COD4 if they don't release tools.

I have about 5 maps near completion along with a mod and it's a lot of fun, if Treyarch support us again with COD7 mod tools I won't have any time left in the day to sleep [thumbs_up]

Unfortunately, the decreasing replay value of a game is often in the interest of the developer/publisher - why would consumers buy the next, newest games if they could still be playing the old ones?

It seems that more and more, publishers are forcing developers in contracts to push out games at ever-increasing speed with stricter deadlines, making it difficult to find time to cater for the modding communities. They focus instead on getting patches out to fix the games.

A sad state of affairs.

indeed...but..

why would anyone pre-order the next game when the last was so poorly supported...

treyarch have my pre-order! (even if i do get kicked in the balls for my faith....)

crysis 2 on the other hand is a maybe after the fiasco that was the originals 1.3 patch (we've cancelled the patch you've been waiting 2 months for....but....omgwow you can buy warhead instead! [banghead])....and the most awesome editor but no http redirect! [confused]

waw is where i'm at for the foreseeable future....am also hoping the bas guys release some gametype prefabs for maps as that definately needs to go all the way. [thumbs_up]
