I nearly walked away from mapping because of the amount of problems I had getting Radiant to run correctly under Windows 7. No amount of right-clicking and running as admin or any other of the myriad fixes out there would help.

The following fixed all of my problems with Radiant and Windows 7.

This procedure involves moving COD out from the Program Files folder. Many people will tell you that COD will not run correctly if its not under the Program Files folder. This is incorrect. COD runs just fine no matter where you install it.

Use this procedure ONLY as a last resort. If you've been through what I've gone through than I encourage you not to give up. Follow the procedure exactly as outlined and I guarantee it will fix everything.

Backup your player profile before proceeding.

1. Uninstall Call Of Duty - leave the "Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" folder and all subfolders under 'Program Files\Activision" for now. DO NOT delete manually yet.

2. Re-install COD4 to C:\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\

3. Install Radiant and updates to same location, C:\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\

4. Go to C:\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\bin\CoD4CompileTools\ and run Compile Tools as "Admin" (always).

5. Click the applications tab and start your "Effects Editor". It will give you an error, saying that the current location does not contain a valid Call of Duty installation. It will then give you the opportunity to change the location. Just point it to the new installation. Done!

Your BSPCompile, Effects Editor and all other aspects of Radiant will now work correctly.

If you mess up the last part, pointing it to the new installation location, you will have to start completely over. And that includes re-installing COD4 and Radiant to the program files folder, and then repeating all of the above.

You can now delete the "Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" folder under 'Program Files\Activision" if you like.

Restore your player profile.

Happy Mapping!

Sorry for the gravedig but do you know if this fixes the problem in 64 bit w7 where paths (pathnodes, covernodes, etc) dont compile properly? Or is this just solve radiant issues in w7? My radiant works just fine in w7 64 bit installed in program files.

Sorry to bring up an old one.

last time I ran CoD4Radiant it was on WinXP64sp3 and worked fine.
I have just installed Win7x64sp1 and changed from individual 1TB HDD's to a Raid of about 2TB. Every thing else on my system is the same.

I can not get 'Build Fast File' to work, keeps throwing up "VirtualAlloc returned NULL; may be out of memory"

Was this the error you were having? If so I shall follow your steps. If not, does anyone have any ideas please?

I have changed pagefile from auto to silly numbers but still no joy so was wondering if it is just windows (but none of you have the problem) or the fact I am now on a raid setup.
