Jason West and Vince Zampella, two lead developers at Infinity Ward, met with Activision earlier today. Then they seemed to disappear and "bouncer-types" showed up at the studio. This Activision filing might explain why.
"The Company is concluding an internal human resources inquiry into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward," Acitivsion states in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. "This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation. At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."
Activision also adds that it will be releasing another Call of Duty game this year. That game is believed to be developed Treyarch.
According to West's Facebook and Linked In pages, he is currently no longer working for Infinity Ward.

I'm telling you all now, IW didnt have anything to do with this IWnet poo-poo, it was all activision, and I bet activision had more up their sleves and IW didnt want to do it, hence this "insubordination" BS they are getting themselfs into.
Insubordination? I wonder what orders they refused to follow or actively ignored. An insubordination charge implies that West and Zampella didn't just refuse to follow Activision's directives when asked but actively disregarded Activision's directions for some significant period of time. That is, it's not just Zampella and West told Kotick "flick you!" but rather ignored or undermined Activision's orders for some period after receiving those orders.
This is really interesting stuff, thanks for posting.
I cannot flicking stand publishers, seriously, they are like the bane of the game industry, EA/Activision.
Fair enough they make your game idea reality, but they want to much power over YOUR idea, rather then giving you the funding and letting you meet the milestones and impress them. |

Welshy writes...Quote: The more I read into this it makes me think it some kind of a crazy publicity stunt.
Security guys showing up, studio heads disappearing and staff members "freaking out"...really? It's a game studio not Stalinist Russia.
It's fairly obvious IW wants to move on to a new title and genre, I wonder if this is a "Win back the fans" plan by claiming its Activations fault. I am looking forward to see what news follows.
How does it seem obvious? |
