Well if you look at the grid area there are a lot of numbers on the side and the top, which is what it looks like (for me) when I zoom all the way out, so try seeing if you could zoom in maybe. As for the no texture problem, try updating your video card drivers, I was having a bunch of odd problems before and that cleared it up! Hope that helps!
