Hi.

I need to upgrade my PC to help run the latest releases smoother, i was thinking the most outdated and important components would be the 4+ year old motherboard and processor,

I'm currently running
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Duel Core Processor 6000+ 3.01GHz
Asus M2N-Sli Deluxe motherboard

I'm really looking for something of a upgrade that will give the most bang for the buck. I have a very limited budget and prefer to stick with AMD so any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

I'm sorry for posting in the wrong forum section.

I have;
Corsair 4096 MBytes DDR2 RAM (think it 2 sticks at 2gb but not 100% sure)
Radeon HD 4870 1024 MBytes

I also have a Corsair 520W PSU and 5TB worth of HDD not that it will be of much use to you to know.

My GFX card isn't that old although the rate at which they upgrade there products these days it probably seems it.

Thanks for your response, if i can post any other information you need to aid help me let me know.

edited by LynxVice - Just check i have 1GByte RAM sticks over 4 slots, all DDR2 and Corsair branded.

Well as you know that the ddr2 ram is gone when you go to upgrade to a new motherboard not only the sockets change so does the ram.
Looks that you might also have to upgrade your power supplie.
Just incase you think about going to intel, the 775 stay away cuz suppliers are no longer making these boards because it cost tomuch to make then it does for the 1156 socket.

the real ? is

1. how much ram
2. PCI singel slot or SLI,Triple
3.What OS 64 or 32bit
4.What other then gaming are you going to be useing this computer for

my small break down( price might be off )

AMD AM3 socket
mother board
  • M4A79XTD EVO Socket AM3 790X ATX Motherboard $113.00
    Ram
  • XMS3 4GB DDR3-1600 (PC-12800) CL9 Memory Kit (Two 2GB Memory Modules) $130

    Power supplie
  • TX750W 750 Watt ATX 12V Power Supply $116
---------------------------Just in case you go intel------------------------------------
    Intel 1156 scoket
    motherboard
  • P7P55D Deluxe LGA 1156 P55 Motherboard $175
    Ram (same ram)
