Well, new to me anyway. Since my last successful compile, I moved a few items, fixed some grass textures, added a skylight window and one decal. I do have the corner entities for a minimap that I have yet to get working.

Any ideas where to look to solve this one? [rolleyes]

Compile log, with error, is below. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that was only for Primary Lights. I don't have any. I did add a few of these lights "ch_industrial_lamp_on" just to get the glow effect for my other lights. Does this industrial lamp actually emit light? I don't see any light settings for these. Plus, I was able to get one compile done after I added these lamps so I'm thinking that can't be the problem.

One curious thing is when I get that error on compile, I get the Abort, Retry or Ignore options. I can select Ignore for example and it will finish the compile, BUT it doesn't actually write a new FF file.

The compiler doesn't really make an FF file. It creates a d3dbsp (direct 3d binary space partition) that the CoD4 engine reads and loads as your map. But that's beside the point...

Is that industrial_lamp a plain model or is it a prefab ? Some prefabs also have light entities in them, but I don't think they are primary.

Maybe you should fix the errors mentioned in the log. Load the error file and resolve them one by one.
The "Texture repeats too many times" could mean that you stretched the texture too much in the Surface Inspector. You should delete the offending brush to avoid any other headaches.
The "Lightmap coordinates..." error can be fixed by selecting the bad face, then press Shift+L to enter Lightmap mode, then press S for the Surface inspector, then press the Lightmap button. Then press Shift+L twice to get back to the normal view.

Yeah, there is nothing in there on Primary light sources, that isn't the issue.

I think like cskiller86 is saying, it has something to do with these errors.

The map WILL compile with "ERROR: Texture repeats too many times." But certain it WILL NOT compile with the lightmap errors above. I would at least fix the lightmap errors and see if that gets rid of that big one at the end there.

Of course it will compile, thats not the problem. the problem is with the last operation error:

merging into concave windings..

This is related to brushes, most likely the last stuff you added to the map since last compile. Check that Skylight window?

Thanks Zeroy. I'll check the windows, but they are pretty simple. Even have clean beveled joints.

I made the statement earlier about compile not writing my .FF file, which of course is done by the Build Fast File button. [duh] Well, even with this concave windings thing, I can hit Ignore and still was able to build the FF files and run the map. A little detective work I guess is still needed.

One thing on the "texture repeats too many times" error I get often. How to determine what is the cut-off point when adjusting a texture with the S key? By cutt-off I mean how do I knwo when I've scaled the texture TOO MUCH? I only adjust stuff when the scale looks off to me. Does this mean for a long wall, I need to split the wall into 5 sections instead of one big wall?

One more thing on primary lights: I have a warehouse with 6 omni lights. Could I add one primary light in that room in order to get shadows on my objects? Since I'd only have one primary this should work I think. Of course in my case, I added windows to this room so the sunlight that filters through would double-up the primary lights and create the too many primary lights on one brush error, right?

I just wanted to ask about the message you get at the top of your compile 'A subdirectory or file E:\Call of Duty 4 Mapping\raw\maps\mp\ already exists.'

Is this a problem? I just recently started getting this message myself and am not sure about it.

I also am plagued by the sun/primary light problem.

That message is always there, you just didn't see it before.
It's because of the command to create the necessary folders. But, since the folders are already there, you get that message.

The sun/light thing isn't that complicated. The sun is also a primary light that makes objects cast shadows.That means that no surface that the sun "hits" can be affected by another primary light.
So, basically, you can't have a primary light in the open.

There are ways to control this problem. For example, let's say you have a primary light in a room but sunlight also enters the room through the windows. In this case, the floor (at least) would be affected by 2 primary lights.
You could cover the windows with a Shadow textured brush. This will prevent the sunlight from entering the room.
