So how many of you are planning to enter the competition? The forums are very quite and there isn't much buzz for the contest!

Come on lets get the ball rolling, post up any ideas, screenshots and WIP projects, see if we can get some more people interested in entering and have a good variety of maps and ideas.

If you need help with something myself and many others are here at your disposal, so stop reading now and go load up hammer [thumbs_up]

I'm hoping to enter. Maybe not the first stage, but hopefully one of the 3 stages. Just getting use to working with Hammer, and a few set backs, like having Hammer crash my system every now and then. ( as it did this the other day and took the map I had been working on with it, good thing I had an earlier version saved so am only set back a few days ) So it's taking me longer than expected. With the talent I've seen in here, I don't expect to win, or even come close. I am just having fun creating with Hammer. Once you get use to it, it's actually pretty easy to work with.

Why would people post ideas or WIPs for a cash prize contest?
People get antsy and QQ when COD mod ideas are borrowed, might turn into a nursery when money is involved. Not to mention you'd be showing all your cards to everyone taking away your edge before submission deadline, or you get measured up early against someone else and then give up.

I know I have people from this site on my Steams friends list and I've seen handful of them on Source/L4D2 SDK 24/7 ever since ModsCon was announced.

That said, I'll probably try to convince Techno to work on a map with me for Stage 2 together. I might try to create something for Stage 1 by myself.

With this year’s contest we wanted a change from call of duty. We agreed that we want to see some new and exciting content using a new game; we are MODSonline after all, not CoDonline.

We want to bring in some new faces and challenge the veteran mappers with a new set of tools. I have seen and spoken to quite a few people that are planning to enter the contest and I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

I went out and bought this game so I could have a go at modding it for the comp. I got the mod tools going and have started a map, the tools are fairly easy to learn and I might even get a level finished by the deadline (it won't be fancy, lol).
BUT,
I went online to play this game for a few nights and I gotta say it is really, really, boring. NO offence intended to anyone who loves it. After I've made a level or two, this game will go straight to the shelf (somewhere right at the back) where it will stay.
Different strokes for different folks and all that.[ohwell]

I understand your point, but were you playing alone? This game is meant to be played with friends. It makes all the difference.

And I look forward to your submission... which I suggest you make regardless of your confidence level. Worst case, it doesn't win the first round, but then you can continue working on it and submit it again. [thumbs_up]

Yeh, I was playing with randoms, but no one else in my clan plays it unfortunately.
I'll definately still submit my level to the contest if I can finish it by the deadline.

Well, I bit the bullet and purchased the Valve Complete Pack this morning. So now steams downloading L4D2 as I work.

Will have to play so I understand how everything works and then started mapping [biggrin]

At the very least if I can get something done by stage 3 I'll be happy [cool]

Going to see if I can take some of my COD mapping ideas from years gone by and implement them into L4D2 [thumbs_up]
