I agree with Rabbit here. Those tutorials are unclear or incorrect.
I find the easiest way to get the image to line up is to crop inside the minimap corners or white lines with no crop dimensions. So you are cropping it to the exact size of that box, but just inside those white border lines. (This is assuming you made your minimap corners an exact square.)
Then simply resize the largest side to 768 or 512.
That's it.
Nemo06c writesQuote: You are following a wrong minimap tutorial or don't understand how to make it. You cut inside the white lines then you resize to 512x512. If your minimap corners are good you should see the entire map ( well what's cover by the minimap corners ).
So, you are saying to crop inside the white lines. Then do an image resize of 512x512? You would lose image space by doing that, from the top and bottom. I don't see how you could ever get it to line up that way. Also, why wouldn't you resize it to 768x768 for better quality?
Or are you saying to make your crop dimensions 512x512 and then crop what you can from inside your image box? Cause I'm sure you are going to lose image space that way too.

The white box drawn around your screenshot is going to be square. There is no getting around this. If you have a playable area the isn't square, you're just going to have to go as high as you can when you take your screenshot to encompass as much of your playable map as possible.
I know you can't. ![[crazy]](images/BBCode/smilies/crazy.gif) I said resize "just" the largest side only to 768 OR 512, the other side becomes relative. And it can be any number x2, it just needs to be relative. |

I would personally go with 2 congruent sides, if you went with 768 there might be a bit of distortion in the resized image which would have to be 512x512 or 1024x1024, thats my thoughts. |

It doesn't have to be a power of 2 image if you check "no tile", "bilinear", and "nopicmip" in asset manager. My current compass is at 937x937 pixels. It's awesome. Except the file size is 4MB, including an alpha channel, so I might knock that down some.
Thanks for the tip. |
