I want to have the ModTools runing at work too in case I need to adjust the map I'm testing out.

I've updated to v1.1 but I'm still getting the shader_bin error. I'm running v1.7 mp.

I see there is a copy of Radiant in the main folder and the bin folder. I replaced them both. When I check the properties of the Radiant app, it shows 1, 0, 0, 1.

Am I just a butthead? [crazy]

The 1.1 patch should replace your radiant and compiletools in your bin folder.

I just downloaded it again an dropped them over the existing versions in my /bin folder. Same error.

Is there a cache or prefs file somewhere? This should be a no-brainer.

Does the Video Card on the machine running the tools Support Shader 3.0?

Research that shader error, because I've heard there is another folder that can be copied. It had something to do with the "raw/shader bin" folder, but I don't remember where I read this.

I tried the trick of copying the shader_bin folder to the two alternated locations to no avail.

I can run CoD4 game. The modtools need more horsepower than that? That would surprise me.

Where can I find out what version I currently have of .net and the shader technology?

I'll say I'm running this XP Pro on my Mac using VM Fusion which allows for the side-by-side running of OS X and XP but with full 3D capabilities.

Thanks.

I just checked the properties of my XP. I have Service Pack 3 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT- 512 MB. Does that mean I can't run Raidant?

I have .NET framework 2.0 SP2, .NET framework 3.0 SP2, .NET framework 3.5 SP1 and WinXP Proff SP3 and it works fine. So it has to be something else.

My EXE's are also 1.0.0.1 so that's allright (they were probably 1.0.0.0 before the update, who knows ?)

Framework 2.0 or higher and Shader 3.0 is required. You can check which Nvidia/ATI cards are Shader 3.0 compatible on these links:

- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_ATI_Graphics_Processing_Units

For the Bin shader error, the Patch 1.1 fixes it.

The issue about .NET framework is a red herring. If you are getting the missing shader bin error, then its to do with how you are replacing the 1.0 executables for both Radiant and Effects Editor with the ones from the 1.1 download.

This bit of your post worries me:

There are NOT 2 locations. Only 1 - in the bin folder. You dont copy the executables there, you REPLACE them. If you arent getting the Windows message asking you to replace the files, you arent doing it right.

As you yourself said, this should be a no-brainer. Try deleting the CoD4Radiant.exe and CoD4EffectsEd.exe first. Then, open up your 1.1 tools download zip file and drag and drop the 2 executables to the bin folder (nothing goes in the 'main' folder - if you have mod tool files in there, you've set them up wrong).

You're probably right. I'll trash everything tomorrow and re-install.

As far as my video card capabilities/drivers running XP via virtualization, in your opinion, if I can run the game I should be able to run the mod tools, right?
