I had the same problem, it's because you're using the wrong image size.

So far these sizes should work fine (haven't tested others):

256x256
256x512
512x256
512x512
512x1024
1024x512
1024x1024

If you use sizes like 512x640 you get errors ( "not correct number of mipmaps" ) - I always recommend to use mipmaps because without them it will look crap in-game on large distances.

For a decal you would need to save the file as DDS DXT5 with interpolated alpha and in Assman you would select the texture type as a Decal so it can be alpha-blended in Radiant.

oh and well i have this topic why do my brothers stock textures not show up they come up as pink and greenish boxes

My decal settings are

materialType: world phong (off course)
surfaceType: none
sort: decal - static decal
usage: sign

Locales checkboxes: decal and Generic

Framebuffer operations (these are IMPORTANT)
blendFunc: blend
polygonOffset: Static Decal


I don't understand your brother's problem... All the stock textures appear as checkerboard ? In your map or in the stock maps ?

well he has textures when we play the game{yes in stock]
but in Radiant they show as checkerboard

i will try that decal
