There was a raid in the early morning hours in Staffordshire UK on Sunday. Anti-piracy officials raided a hideout for illegal traders at a Staffordshire car boot sale, leading to the confiscation of 20,000 illegally copied discs with an estimated street value of over half a million pounds (about 1 million U.S. dollars). Two people were rung up on offences against the Trade Marks Act of 1994 and the case is currently proceeding with the offenders facing possible prosecution. Full story below.

Cool lmao

Cheers

Staffordshire Piracy Raid
Early
on Sunday morning in the U.K. anti-piracy officials raided a hideout
for illegal traders at a Staffordshire car boot sale, leading to the
confiscation of 20,000 illegally copied discs with an estimated street
value of over half a million pounds (roughly 1 million U.S. dollars).
This raid was conducted by the Staffordshire Police and supported by the ELSPA (Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association), Staffordshire Trading Standards, FACT
(Federation Against Copyright Theft) and Customs and Excise, uncovered
a total of 20 stores selling pirated games along with a plethora of
other contraband. Pirate copies of DOOM 3 was the most
prevalent game title, while officers discovered a small amount of
previously unseen fake GameCube mini discs. Two people were rung up for
offences against the Trade Marks Act 1994 and the case is currently
proceeding with the offenders facing possible prosecution.

"This
case illustrates the way in which piracy poses a threat to members of
the public, allowing titles containing unregulated adult-rated content
to be sold illegally without the enforcement of our rigorous ratings
system, which is strictly adhered to by legitimate retail outlets,"
commented Roger Bennett, director general of ELSPA. "ELSPA would like
to thank all those involved for their efforts to eradicate computer and
video games piracy."
I sometimes wonder... "Why is that frisbee getting larger?" .............and then it hits me.

I think officials hit up a game development company in the States last year.. slightly different scenario. They were using unlicensed copies of software for development.

Well maybe it's a message to game developers that their products are too expensive, and it's not like they hate the job, id love to be able to join a game making team even if it meants no income. I mean I'm 15 and I love playing PC games online. But they cost way too much in my opinion. I get about £100 for my birthday, and I can buy two new released games with that, only two, it sucks. On top of everything else, such as cloths I want, shoes etc. I think new game should be around £20. So basically, I only get like 4 games a year at the most. I'd really like Brother in arms, but I guess ill wait till the price drops, like normal. If I made a game id offer it for free download or very cheap. Stupid game developers *sigh*.
