just to draw a line under this... the cod 4 fx fixed the fps problem (and looks fantastic!) no idea why the cod 5 fx wants a soundalias! so alls well 5 hours and about 30 compiles later. i appreciate your time demon! by fiddling and comparing scripts to get this working, i ve learnt much more than getting my "hand held"!

Quote: no idea why the cod 5 fx wants a soundalias! I explained that above in an edit to one of my posts, but perhaps you missed it: the WaW fx uses a sub fx in it - system_elements\fx_smoke_short_burst and that has a sound alias in it - "breath_out".
