So, the fact that you might not get prosecuted makes it ok does it? Something is not wrong only when you will get caught for it - something is wrong pure and simple, and pirating is wrong. If you get away with it, that doesnt make it right.

And who knows? Like the countless people who have been prosecuted recently for pirating music (and that means inidividuals - not just websites and P2P networks), perhaps if the companies know about you, they might prosecute you just to make an example out of you.

Also, I would point out that talking about pirating or admitting to it on a website like this, where it is against the rules of the forum, is not clever.

If this was directed towards me; I'm not pirating the content. I legally own both games.

As for the models themselves, there is no money involved so I doubt even a mod-friendly studio like Valve would care. The only reason I use them is because I need them for my mod that I've been working on for over a year. I would have used MW2 models but yeah they don't even bother releasing any modtools.
My goal is to make a mod that people can enjoy not something that I'm going to earn money with.

It's not like I have highly skilled modelers standing in line to help me out.. (learning it myself now but it takes time obviously)

I did the import orginally as a test, i did it for the m24 - there are convertors out there basically for this. However i would say that the poly count and texture res was not extraordinary and so i would recommend using other models, either custom made or from 3D models sites like turbosquid.com

For a few $$ you can get some decent stuff [jumping]

I dont mind them beeing low poly, do you have a link for the extractors, or they are just named BF2 Extractor or something [thumbs_up]

3DxRipper to grab the models/textures to .obj / tga> Milkshape3D to isolate the weapon, do materials, tags > Xmodel Creator to stick back in COD

Ok to resolve this contraversy I read over all the terms and agreements from valve and activision. In there it does not say users can't convert their material and no where in the copywrite law does it state specifically that you can't do that. If you don't believe me the part that talks about this is article 156 go look it up.

As long as your not changing the ownership and you give the original creator it is legal regardless of whether you downloaded a torrent and converted models or if you bought the game.

At the same time I'm not saying this is ok but I will say that if the creators really didn't want you to convert their stuff they wouldn't make it possible to convert or release the know how which most companies do for the purposes of modding. When they release that knowledge they release it knowing this stuff happens so they really have no grounds to sue or make a big deal of it.
