A friend of mine found this pretty interesting piece of information today. Seems like Activision wants to pump out CoD's even faster.

Quote:
Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard is looking to further expand the blockbuster series by adding a third development studio to the mix, claims a Los Angeles Times report.

Recent years have seen the company release annual entries by alternating lead development duties between series creator Infinity Ward (Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2) and Treyarch (Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: World at War), with external studios n-Space and Rebellion having assisted with Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2 editions.

Activision claims that this year's entry, Modern Warfare 2, represents "the biggest launch in history across all forms of entertainment," with indications that the inevitable next one will be handled by Treyarch and could be set in Vietnam.

The publisher has also repeatedly spoken of a possible Call of Duty-branded massively multiplayer game, with CEO Bobby Kotick pondering how to monetize "the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment" and CFO Thomas Tippl noting "you should expect us to test and ultimately launch additional online monetization models of some our biggest franchises like Call of Duty."

Source.

More jobs for the economy.

Modders should send resumes to this new start up CoD company to get foot inside before industry veterans (like Pandemic Studios) get em. That is, whenever word breaks out which new studio is helming the new CoD title.

yeah woo treyarch to fail another cod series, treyarch can never get a game right only reason WAW was so good on the computer was because it was modded, it is poo-poo when its not so now cod is gona fail to console players. oh well if iw wants to put the franchise in a company that cant even get foot step sounds correct then cod is now gona fail oh well just playing iw games for now on. TREYARCH SUCKS.

Good idea, where do I sign? [lol]

@ lilt

That's odd, I really enjoyed WaW (SP in particular).

@lilt

UO introduced a lot to Call of Duty, lots of features that are now removed to make way for down sized gameplay and how ever many they could fit on a console pad.

I liked WAW too, great game, add lots to the game engine which IW missed out on in support of Consoles streaming technology which fails on the PC [cry]

Also I don't understand this article?

They are saying they want a 3rd developer but don't quote anything regarding that? Source of that ?

I would sign up, but we don't even know what engine it would use... MMO on quake ? pfft

@ litt you do realize part of the staff at Treyarch consists of staff from greymatter, dev who worked on UO (Greatest Game in Series)

I would say reason for failure is short time span between games for the blockbusters the are apparently suppose to be.

This is what think they should do, have the three studios work on their projects and release them every year, or in the current model
Year 1 - IW
Year 2 - Treyarch
Year 3 - NEw Studio

- what I am getting at is that this method would allow them more time to work on projects, and maybe even more time to give out modding tools.

lol...

The reason they don't release modtools is so that they can charge money for new maps (downloadable content).
Nobody would buy them if the modding community made their own maps, besides modtools are useless without dedicated servers unless you're talking singleplayer.

Personally I believe that Treyarch has treated us better than IW at the momment. Yes, there were many issues with the game at first, but they still supported us and kept fixing those issues. They kept coming out with patches including map-packs that would keep the game going! Treyarch listened to what the community wanted and tried to give us what we wanted.
nullFew tips for coding.
1. Keep the script as short as possible.
2. Don't comment every line. Only comment portions where they may be needed to point something out.
3. Don't over complicate the script, keep it organized and easy to read.

These help you find simple errors and makes it easy to make changes.
