do i need a fire effect in game to hear a sound?

It should definitely work, I can hear it fine but the Rain sound is a bit over powering, comment out the ambient

// ambientPlay("ambient_sptestmap");

Like that, then run up to the car.

Vertices are the connecting points of each winding on a patch. So instead of making a terrain patch in a small area 15x15 you would make it 5x5 or however many vertex points you actually need/want.

There are a couple of other sounds to choose from but to change the volume you'll need to change some values:

medfire,1,fire/fire_med_loop02.wav,0.1,0.5,,,,50,100,auto,,,,,streamed,looping,,sptestmap,,,,,,

This bit: 0.1,0.5 is your minimum and maximum volume.

So you could change it to make it louder:

medfire,1,fire/fire_med_loop02.wav,0.5,0.8,,,,50,100,auto,,,,,streamed,looping,,sptestmap,,,,,,

That should make a good change, values you can have are:

0.1, 0.2, 0.3 up to 1 (1 = FULL volume)

yeah thx! actually, pitch_min,pitch_max means the volume, 0.1,0.5
