Hype is one thing, but leaving customers in the dark and making certain features elusive is the definition of BAD MARKETING.
The community manager seems to have at least tried to tell us what's going on but really he should be telling IW... "Hey you know nobody knows what the hell we're doing?"
Yea, it would have been worse if everyone already had the game and then found out. |

Has anyone considered that this could be part of a brilliant marketing ploy. W all know how much strategy goes into marketing with the tight gradual release of information and the little teases they often do to create hub bub about the game right before the release.
You could argue that IW has been more in touch with the PC community than treyarch. And with theyre loyal fan boys following them around over the years, IW would almost certainly know how much dirt and talk would be kicked up about this. I mean if they were to tell everyone in the next week or two that MW2 would actually be released with dedicated servers and mod tools on day one, there would be such an intensity to get the game on the PC side it would ratchet up the sales in my view. I know that many preorders have been canceled at the moment but if by release day IW said sike everything is included, man you wouldnt be able to stop all those fanboys from climbing over the cash register counters and shelves from doing whatever they could to get that game.
Im not saying thats what I think is happening but from a maketing perspective I think it would generate the desired result of excitement and intensity over the game without adding anything special to the game.
Anyways it would have been nice if that was the truth lol.

Your right jeannotvb, but it shouldn't be like this at all.. Why do they have to go and ruin everything, although i wasn't over excited about mw2 i would have still brought it, but now what is the point!? The whole reason i play on the pc is because of the modding communities.. This whole ''PC makes us no money so you get no 'special' treatment and have to pay for everything'' thing is appaling.
This also lead me to another point, a lot of people will buy the game for multiplayer but want to experience the few hours of SP there is, i for example always play through the campaign before playing MP. But now if we have don't even have dedicated servers and are left with that horrible, horrible match making service, isn't this just an advert for piracy? Why pay X amount to have a look at the SP content when you can do it for nothing!?
Don't take that the wrong way, i in no way support piracy and am not suggesting anyone does this! but i am so dissapointed with IW at the moment and have lost all respect for them. |

You have a point but i think angering the PC community to such an extent is plain bad marketing, they may have drummed up some talk but none of it is good! You try to find and forums thread with ''great job IW love the idea''! |

If this is a marketing ploy, which I hope it is with my very lifeblood, it's a terrible one. IW has their customer/fan base so frazzled right now. If they said, "Jokes on you, we were just kidding." Everyone who cancelled their pre-order would balk at re-buying. IW has no face with the PC community now. And we don't trust them.
I would be willing to try this SkyNet, but only if I had the option to go to a dedicated server if I didn't like it. You can't just rip away the very fabric of on-line gaming, especially after your previous release is near to perfect now. IW's downfall is that they made the ultimate game. We want that again, just a little different. Them messing with what we find so fantastic shows how out of touch they are with us.
If it ain't broke you can't fix it.
