I need a little help here. I'm designing a map with a lighthouse, which is basically three cylinder patch meshes on top of each other. My problem is that I can not clip a door into the side of it. Any suggestions?

maybe you can, i'm not sure, but you can give it a try; it works on cone's.

select the cilinder and press v now select a row of vertices with shift+leftmouse, when you have selected the row you want to clip press ctrl+shift+x now it should be split.

and maybe make two end cap's and line the vertices so that there is an nice cylinder with a gap between them and make a cylinder on top of them. or you could just make it out of brushes. that's way easier i think, just make s 15 sided brush or something and the clip the inside out it and put a cilinder inside with matrix invert so it looks round from the inside.

just my 2 cents

well i'd actaully make a patch mesh and then push "v" to show vertices and then manually make them into a circle then where u want the door, just move around the vertices till u have the size u want. but to do the door u will need to select one at a time. hold control then hold the left mouse button and drag the small blue box around the vertice/vertices that u want and move them with alt and left mouse button held.

You "clip" patch meshes the same way you eliminate the terrain under builings in this tutorial.

The problem there is that if I move the vertices the cylinder came with, it messes up the front side of the cylinder so it doesn't line up with the cylinder on top of it. Unless, there's a way to ADD extra vertices to it.

well go big no matter wut, i do 15 by 15 all the time. then make yer cylinder with either one big one or multiple ones and to make them line up make sure that both yer meshes are 15 by 15 or wutever the size u prefer. then highlight 2 (if u used multiple ones) of yer meshes and then push "V" and then highlight 2 verticesthat are side by side but on different meshes and hold ctrl and push "K" i hope this makes sense to u. i tried helpin ya out so sry if its a lil complicated of a answer im new to helping ppl.

You could also make your lighthouse out of brushes. It won't make it a perfect cylinder, but it will make it far easier to manipulate and you could actually get inside it and put stairs in it so you can climb to the top.
