Well if you really can't find a non-alpha texture that you want then you could make your terrain with a solid texture, copy it, put your alph texture on it, and then move it to the same spot. Essentially do what you would to alpha blend, just don't blend the two and only the alpha texture should show up.

Could you explain how i would go about doing this sorry for all the questions im pretty much a noob.

make your terrain with whatever texture you want. Duplicate it using the spacebar. Apply your grass alpha texture to this duplication and place it just slightly above the original terrain.
