is it normal for your .map size to increase dramatically after adding lightgrid/reflections and a lot of models....

i m talkin....14mb to 77mb!

the compiled .ff is still 25mb ish....[confused]

map stats -

http://clubthatseal.com/images/mapstats.jpg

model number seems MUCH more than is actually there! [eek]

if thats correct....i wouldn't be sooo concerned if it didnt compile to so much smaller...

insight? how many models do u people have?

after a rough count....that may be somewhat right! [eek]

that would account for the huge jump in size then?

i really did get carried away with models!

still interested to know how many others have in finished maps? [tongue]

Yes! It is normal. My mp_jungle was 68mb, when I took out a lot of the destuctables and models it went down to 38mb.

I guess the models can't be more compressed than they already are then.

On a side note, I am noticing that you have no prefabs in your map! Oo Is that a design choice ?

thanks ian [wink]

i thought i'd caused a problem when i noticed my map size had jumped that much! [lol]

@tam - i've made everything in situ from scratch in it, so been no need to prefab anything.

see topic here and it should become clear. [wink]

ok, I see. You *could* have done those gun turret as prefabs, but I guess that is down to a personal choice at this point. ;)

BTW does backing the light not increase the 3d data of the map, the more complex the geometry is the more memory it requires?

i *could* have imported the original models tbh....but at that point i hadn't considered it...

VERY glad i didn't now! avoid custom models! they are the bain of my life! [lol]

wot with all the assman settings...and then stretched textures for no reason! they are more aggro than they are worth! [cry]

i didn't have much choice tho! wudn't have been the same without them.

backing the light?

er .... model? prefabs? You lost me. Nevermind then. :p

I was talking about the light process in during the compilation. Just testing to see if what I suppose is actually happening: more complex geometry calls for more memory to store the data.
