Hi, I want to convert jpegs using the converter, but what are the right settings?
Because when I try to compile it says that it can't find the shader type for the custom textures, spits out some other lines and closes after pressing the key to continue.

I used winrar for making a .dds. Dont know what effect it has on it yet but it turned from a .jpg to .dds.

can't find the shader type for the custom textures.

I think when it says that it means that you need to rename your textures to include the shader name.

ie:mahoganyfloor
retype it as wood@mahoganyfloor and that should do it.

each material has its own shader as in - wood brick metal

hope this helps

Might try the winrar, but in my texture name I already have the '@' included, so that's not it, I am afraid.

I have no clue how you can use winrar to change a file type. [ohwell] [ohwell]

Anyway, I get those warnings during compile as well and sometimes even on "stock" textures. I don't worry about them any longer as they appear okay in-game and have the desired effect (i.e. wood, metal, glass whatever).

If you note they are just warnings. My guess was (and still is) that the compiler can't find what it thinks it needs. However, since the compiler doesn't do anything with it, who cares? The texture name is stored in the .bsp and the in-game engine is the one that is rendering it with the shader. If you still get those messages when you load it with developer=1 and devmap then I'd worry.

you right click the file and click "add to archive, then a window comes up. At the top, theres a bar with the file name. You just change the file extension to a .pk3 or dds or zip or anything and press ok. it will then act like its unzipping and will create a new file.

Unfortunately, the compiler doesn't ignore it and closes itself

All you are doing is changing the filename. You are NOT converting anything! WinRAR is an archiving application. It will not do anything but compress a file into an archive.

DDS files are created using the plugins for paitnshop pro or photoshop from NVidia. No other way. PERIOD.

Hey Orion, maybe there is another error that you're not seeing??? Just a thought because, as I mentioned, I thought those were just warnings.

Do you have a pause at the end of the script so you can see what the output is when it's done? If not, add that and then you can look to see if there is a more serious error.

If this were the case, why could I not open it in ms paint because the filetype is not supported AND nthe same error comes when I open a real .dds file? I know this is a very crude way of telling but hey...
