It's basically just playing with the "Y" thingy (raising and lowering terrain) and alpha blending some. There is a tutorial in the videosection about making hills.

Hills tutorial.

In my map I used another method, which works much better imo.
I just drag the rows of vertices in a near vertical postion.

you can create a patch mesh and manually manipulate the vertices then rotate it 90 degrees so it is standing on edge

what is being described above is taking a terrain mesh and manually pulling the vertices to simulate a cliff....doing so can work, but caution has to be used that you do not position vertices directly over each other or you will get lightmap errors and possible triangulation errors [angryalien]

i'd like a 90 degree cliff but i made a patch then made it really hilly then i tried to put it at 90 degrees and it only made it about 70 so with those verticies (or sumthin like that) wut yer sayin is i push "V" then i move it all like that? seems eazy enough, yet wouldnt that stretch the texture?
