On the map Assembly he has 1 specific pipe that you can walk through then stick your head out of a hole that looks like it was broken or blown apart with jagged edges.

Im at a loss to how this is done, because cylinders cannot be cut and for how large and round his pipes are... what other way could they have been made?

Kals told me how he did this, he used individual brushes and put them together to make a circular shape. Using the "E" tool will be the best thing u could use for this i would think.

The way I did it was like this......

Load radient, add an actor, then draw a cube...

Goto brush>arbitrary sided cylinder and put 16, goto top view and extend the pipe......

Now delete the two ends.......

Goto front view press 'I' and deselect the actor, now press 'X' and cut the pipe about shoulder height.......

Press 'ESC' then select just the top parts of the pipe that you cut, once you have them hi-lighted goto Edit>Copy......

now press Delete, and save as test_pipe, now goto menu>new map, goto Edit>paste and save as test_pipe_01 now you can work on the hole in your pipe, when your happy with it save as test_pipe_02, press 'I' load test_map and when asked to copy selection click 'Yes' and it will put it right back on top of your pipe.

I know its a bit of a long winded way of doing it but I couldn't figure out any other way of doing it, its how I made the round fishing huts in mp_jungle and the towers in mp_camelot.

Hope it helps.

Ian.

BTW! If you right click the pics and select save as, you can load them in a pic viewer and be able to see them in more detail

OOPS! Sorry mate! Forgot to mention that when you have extended your pipe click on the 'HOLLOW' button at the top, then carry on with deleting the two ends.

Hi,,
the unbroken pipes in assembly are simple patch cylinders..
To make the broken parts i made a short piece of tube from brushes(the quickest way is to just make a quarter of the tube then duplicate it to create the cylinder)..Then i just clipped in the destroyed part..I did the same to create the broken ends of the pipes..
Hope this helps..
If you pm me your email address i could send you the prefab i made so you can see how its done..

CHEERS...
kals..

One is a patch and one is made up of a series of brushes. Kal used both the patch method where he didnt need to cut the pipe, and the brush method where he did..

Someone should add Arachnofang's post to the Tutorials.

Pure genius! [thumbs_up]
