Ok so I know how to do arches properly, but my question is how is the secondary decortive arch made that a lot of people put on the outside of the primary arches?

Many clipped brushes is the easiest to texture, just make sure there detail and not used for portalling or patches but then your veritice index mite be high number as thats alot triangles and doubled up vertices.the best way to learn is to fool around with vertices in a temp map and stay on grid.

Im not sure what you are asking? The pic shows a capped arches as you would do it anyway?

edit: noticed you meant something else, the patch on top you mean? use a cap (patch>primitives> end cap) also now that i explained it anyway you might wanna use it it looks sexy :P

[big screenshots]

Ok first create 3 arches, like so:

Make a curve patch (3x3) and put it in the position so it fits perfectly between the inner two arches:

Now bend it dragging the dots to the correct position:

Copy it to the other side, and invert it (patch->invert) so the textures face the right direction + make another patch that fits between the outer and middle arch:

Now copy again like you did before and you're done, don't forget to remove the arch in the middle as it was only used for reference to make sure the patches have to correct size:

jeannotvb, thanks... thats what I couldnt figure out [thumbs_up] I was messing around thinking that you could just make the 2 arches, highlight them both then hit cap... but no dice lol. [mad]

ah guys, you are too complicated,

1. Create the arch: simple brush > patch > primitives > end cap)

2. Thicken the arch: patch > Thicken > Select thickness > DONE.
