Hi there guys, second time posting on the forum. Everyone has been lovely so far, very helpful! ^.^

So here's my problem. I recently figured out how to manipulate terrain with more grace and I realized that you had to make lots of little terrain pieces in order to map around a hole in the ground, like a well. I read the tut here on how to make a well, but it didn't explain the terrain part, just making the well. I converted the well into an entrance to an underground bunker with a ladder, and everything was find until I looked at it in game. In order to make the bottom of the well, I took the textures I used on top, and flipped them around so that they'd be upside down. It appears fine in Radiant, but when I load into the game, it is transparent and I don't know why! I guess I'm just really new to this. probably something simple and dumb that I didn't realize. I'm still trying to get a grasp on all my LMAP light errors xD But yeah any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Spider

P.S. Also, is there any way to take 2 separate terrain pieces and sort of weld them into a single piece? Just wonderin, thanks!

Go to surface editor and choose LMAP while the patch is selected.

I thought I had already Lmapped the terrain, apparently I had not so that reappeared. I couldn't turn it back over since it needs to be seen from the bottom. That would kind of defeat the purpose of flipping it upside down in the first place. I'm sorry I guess I didn't explain well enough in the original. I Lmaped the other pieces as well but they are still invisible. In the tut here he teaches you how to make that rim around the top of the well. I have made that doing the same thing he did, however only the sides are invisible and I'm not sure why. Top and bottom are there just fine.. All the pieces to the rim are simple curve patches. I'll try some more things, thanks for the advice!

Also, what exactly does Lmap do just so I know when to use it and what it's appropriately used for ^.^

Press Shift+L in Radiant, you'll see the light maps in Radiant. The patches that are transparent will have stretched or really bad looking light maps.

yea like sparky said just press shift + L ( i dont know if it is one or 2 times ) until u see a checker like surface in black and white or gray on everything, then select ur patches that have the checker patches too stretched out and press S for suface editor and press the LMAP button. when ur done fixing ur lmap errors press shift + L until your back to your normal view. this is very helpfull when for w/e reason u need to really stretch a texture and it looks cool ( but youll get those errors ) so press shift + L till u get the black and white checkers and select the ones that are super stretch and do as mentioned, it shouldnt give you an error and you shoul still keep your texture stretched out. Im just saying for w/e reason. lol

No don't feel bad that is phenominally helpful! I really appreciate it and I will do that for all my terrains. however, I think I stumbled upon why those textures aren't showing up. Am I to understand that nothing is allowed to penetrate or be clipping my mantle piece? Cause my ladder was clipping it a bit on the outside and when I moved the ladder out some, viola, mantle piece back in place... What can and can't clip them? Anything or nothing? Man I can't wait till I have a grasp on all of this >.< But that's why you guys rock here ^.^

SUCCESS! They are finally visible in game again. The Shift L Lmaping was definitely the answer. Thank you guys SO much. That was holding me up for ages.

So just to get this straight for myself and for anyone else with this problem. When you are getting LMAP errors, Press SHIFT-L and search your map for distorted blocks. once you find them, highlight, press S , and then you can press Shift-L again and go back to your textures, and even if you wanted them distorted, they will remain so because you Lmapped in a different mode.? [thumbs_up]

Thanks a million guys. That was great response time ^.^ Better than the other forums out there >.< Again thanks! You guys rock@!
