Fellas!!
It's been a while since I've been into game making, but I had to delete Steam late last year because it was crowding up my harddrive. BUT, I was thinking, would it be too irrationable to install Steam and TF2, HL2:DM and HL2 directly onto a large memory flash drive? I know I would have to change some directories, but I just wanted to know if there was another flaw that anyone can spot or dream up.

Also, would anyone know where I can get a fairly cheap large memory flash drive? I was thinking around 36GB, but those run pretty high unfortunately. so If someone could tell me how much memory Steam and the games listed above take up, that would be peachy.

Thank ya,
94Sniper

If you plan to mod the SDK code, it must be installed in c:/steam

Otherwise you should be fine with any drive. Just make sure the portable drive is always the same drive letter on all computers.

and by "mod the SDK code" do you mean edit the program or use it stock? Cuz that's the main reason I want it again lol, that and surf maps ;)

any game would play choppy as the data transfer between portable drives and the BUS (especially USB) is extremely (typ) downgraded from direct cable to the BUS (ie SATA)

you would also be missing all registry keys to make the programs and for that matter STEAM work were you to attempt to flip locations from one terminal to another.

most registry keys would be unique to the hardware GUID created by each program when installed - including STEAM

all in all...the purpose of STEAM is so that you can install your favorite games on multiple blocks to play anywhere simply by logging in.... that said i would assume ulterior motives which are in violation of forum rules - AND generally frowned upon in this community
