I tried to open up my map but an error came up: radiant was unable to load the layers.... then when I tried to just load up the map, nothing came up except the name in the top bar of raiant.

Losing a map sucks!!

But check to see what your filter settings are just in case they are all deselected.
Other than that I hope you have a back-up.

You said using radiant, do you mean gradiant?

I save every minor stage with a diferent name. I make a door, save it, map25. I make a window by the door, is the map26. I know, at the and of the day you will have 489 map file, but if there is a compiling error, or justand error like yours, you will be sure what part causes the problem.

water texture is invisible in game, you need to texture the top with one of the water textures in the sfx folder, and the other 5 sides should be common/water...

like sear said, make sure you dont have anything set to 'hidden'

when using graydiant, there seems to be a misconception that the gmm is all you need to map with...or the only file that is required to work on the map
truthfully, the gmm is really nothing more than an index of the layer files (which are usually located in a folder "mapname" sub-directory to the location of the .gmm)
if graydiant cant find a layer, it is because the .gmm is referring to something that isnt there (most often the folder "mapname") that contains all of the actual mapping layer information [angryalien]

I always keep my .gmm file with my .map file and the other way around.
