They should have a way to custom servers to connect to a "rank grabber server" or whatever, that would keep track of your rank and level and unlocks for you (Mabye even key bindings? ;p). So when I go to log onto a stock server at max rank, I can carry the same exact unlocks and same exact achievements and stats over to the custom map server. But say due to me possibly already having the map, and knowing every little cheap camper spot that fuels the camper in me, don't make the servers capable of ranking you up or adding to your stats or achievements. So then when new players to the map join and get schooled because they walk around a corner and get faced with the other teams spawn point, their K:D ratio won't go down or anything.
And I can agree with techno, the part that really made me mad was giving all teams the same exact weapons... modern warfare I guess that could make sense, but definatly not in World at War. Then again, I doubt a US soldier would want to use a scoped AK for a sniper when we supply super deadly .50 cal guns and such.

my opinion...
i think its a combination of the size of the maps .ff's, coupled with the stingy redirect bandwidth of game server providers, coupled with the download speeds from some isps.
cod 2 was awesome for content! these days u have to be patient to play custom maps because they have quadrupled in size
such a shame too as maps/mods seem a better standard than ever before...... |

Welshy writes...Quote: The fact the you don't get all your guns and perks when playing custom maps and mods put's me off straight away.
That happens only if the server admin sets up the mod that way.
All the modded servers I play on are set up to give you instant-rank 65 and you can then pick any of the weapons and perks you want and put them into classes you create.
After you've instant-ranked to 65 you exit the map, (with the mod still active) you then create your custom classes with full access to every perk and weapon.
You re-enter the map, pick your class and your ready to go.
You only have to do this the first time you play on a that modded server.
The custom classes you've created on that server will stay with that server or, like in the COD4 paintball mod by CrazyAnkles, the custom classes you created in that mod will be available on any server running the same unaltered mod.

I have cod2, cod4 and codwaw, I love custom maps and mostly thats all I want to play.
so why do I only ever play coduo.
because when ever I try joining a custom server in the other games, I get massive downloads, "not a problem" but always the end result is "always" map download fault, fail, cock up.
so why bother, I don't care about weapons, perks.
I just want problem free servers.
maybe modsonline could have a page of the
100 best custom, problem free servers for each game.
and to make my point,
I have never played a custom map in cod2/cod4/codwaw
not because of lack of trying.
discoverd the other day, there are 900+ cod2 custom maps
they look awesome, but till im pointed to a problem free server, I doubt I will ever play one of them .
and NO it's not my pc |

- How are the servers checked that they are actually good servers?
- How do we follow-up on them to check that they still exist over time?
- If we allow users to submit problem servers for removal from the list, who confirms that the server is in fact a problem?
- Who is allowed to submit the servers to the list?
- If anyone can submit to this list, how do we prevent spamming?
- How do we do all of the above if we have a 1000 servers in the list?
- Do we need a list for different areas of the world since ping is also a form of quality? Or do we ignore ping in this case?
When I consider the above tasks, it sounds like a full time job. |
