I can't remember exactly but I think a winding is the center diagonal line that you see on a face ( or 'plane') of a brush when changing the edge direction, each face is calculated separately but if you have a brush where 2 faces are aligned so they morph into 1 single face then the compiler gets confused and calls it a mirrored plane.

I could just be talking poo-poo though. lol

If this is indeed the problem then it's a case of deleting any brushes that have been clipped at strange angles or been made overly complicated.

Also anything that you might have used CSG on...hopefully you have not used CSG... but delete those too.

no joy with this as yet...compiler just ends more or less straight away [cry]

looks like its a case of making a copy of the map.....and deleting the most recent brushes a few at a time until it hopefully goes away.......

bloody radiant! [banghead]

edit - there are a few strange shaped brushes, none i would call overly complicated tho tbh. will bear wot you said in mind tho while i m on my deleting mission [lol]

thanks techno [thumbs_up]

i m sooo glad i compile quite regularly! thankfully thats limits how far back i need to go!

OK - i figured i should jump in and help you all out on this one.....

Mirrored plane...
This error is typically created when a textured brush is clipped, creating (essentially) a plane that has textures occupying it that run in the opposite (mirrored) direction imagine a piece of paper that has an image on it...then copy that image to another piece of paper...place the two images face to face....assume that these are 2 brush edges (co-joining) and you now have a duplicate or mirrored plane

FIX....
only texture visible faces.

Re-caulk the offending area and ctrl+click to select only visible faces and texture

Winding point limit (64) exceeded on brush face.....
This error often occurs when there are just too many vertices on a brush.

Imagine the first square is you looking at the end of a brush. the face has 4 vertices.

Now, in the second picture, we have another brush, the face which you can see is co-planar with the first face, such that the two vertices touch one edge of the face. the compiler will split that edge on the first face and add the two vertices shown in green to it, making it now have 6 vertices. with multiple repeated brushes, this can quickly build up to the max of 64.

hope this helps

have found the offending brush now :D

i think i got carried away when creating an "arbituary sided brush" and when counted with the rest of the brushes with it, it went over.

before this i didnt even realise there was a limit! so lesson learned! [thumbs_up]

thanks to everyone who helped! much appreciated! [rocking]

hopefully this can help others in future.
