I would like to know how you can tell if a mapper applied portals in his map.

Are there any commands to type in like cg_drawfps 1 or other developer commands that will reveal whether the map is portaled or not?

I am adding maps to my server and I only want to put on maps that have been portaled or retain high FPS.

Another question, can you remove the fx items to help increase the FPS. I understand the how the .iwd works.

you can tell ingame...load the map you want to check out with cheats.

type this in console:

/devmap "mapname"
/r_showportals 1

you can type "/r_showportals 1", "/r_showportals 2", "/r_showportals 3".

Then the blue/yellow outlines will apear IF the map has been portaled. If not then nothing will happen.
It looks like this:
(I know this is UO but it looks the same in all of em.)


and yea i know I got bad fps here, my computer is useless most times.
Any other way?

the r_showportal dvar doesn't seem to work for cod2 stock maps. Not sure why.

you may also check out r_drawtris and r_singlecell.

Thanks guys.

BUT I could only get the r_singlecell to work. This works with cheats on or off.

I looked into how to use cheats and found this command: sv_cheats 1. I tried this but I could NEVER get the /rshowportals 1 command to work. I even tried 2 and 3.

Would love to see this second command work but the other ones still does the job of letting me know when a map is portaled.

don't forget the underscore: r_showportals

run the map using /devmap mapname to enable cheats

r_showportals doesn't work for stock maps, r_singlecell and r_showtris do work.

See the white lines disappearing:



you can also check the bsp itself, use cod2map.exe -info BSPNAME and check for portals, cells etc.

Yellow ones are func_cullgroups, instead of each brush not being drawn when you can't see it, it groups the brushes together so they all get drawn or not drawn at the same time

I still can not get it to work. I can see the command r_showportals 1 as I type it and I have started the map with /devmap

I do not understand how to do this part:
