Hey, I'm new to this site and I was reffered to it by a host from a cod2 server.

I've been reading for the past 4 hours[banghead] or so and trying many different things to get my own server going but nothing is working out for me :(. The servers that I make are only seen in the local tab.
So, I would like to start over and try to get it going any help would be greatly apprecitated.

Oh, sorry if this thread is in the wrong section. I didn't know where else I should post this :o.

If you click "Start New Server" ingame...the server that you "made" is not available to the public I believe, just locals. If you want to have a server that anyone can join, unfortunatly, you have to pay for one from various game server hosting websites.

Yes, but there are ways I can host a server from my home and that is what I'm trying to figure out.

Of course there is... [crazy]

This is mildly bland but you should be able to figure it out from here. This is off the top of my head, cause I used to run a private server for COD2.

Open the COD2 port/s (28960) on your router, that point to the respective computers internal IP address that is running the server. Which computer on your network is the server?? Check your local Network Tab in router. (DHCP Clients Table)

Have a second machine to run the server on, will play better if the computer you are playing on, isn't the same computer running the server. Still can be done though on same machine.

In the COD2 Parent folder, make a folder called something. Like "test_server". You need to run a server.cfg file along with some kind of maprotation. Look on the net for a default server.cfg maybe included with the maprotation, as they could all be in the same file.
This folder is also where you place your map. Make sure your buddy has the same folder created in the same dir. and map.iwd in the same folder. That way he won't have to download it from you, he can just join.

On server computer, Make a shortcut to the MP game, edit the shortcut properties as something like this:

......Call of Duty 2\CoD2MP_s.exe" +set net_port 28960 +set fs_game test_server +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

Launch Shortcut, and if you did it right, the game will run as just the console on your desktop, and hence the server. Although, since you are on the same network as your server, you MUST connect to your server through your INTERNAL IP ADDRESS. All others like your buddy, must connect to your server through your External IP.

Just run your MP game, open console and type:

YOU
Example:
connect 192.168.1.102

BUDDY
Example:
connect 87.44.231.66

Good Luck.
