I'm having trouble figuring out how to host my custom map, i made a post and somebody told me I should make an arena file, so I read the tutorial and I made the file. But I'm still unable to host the map so that my friends can join it. Could somebody tell me how to make it go online?

Arena files don't work in CoD4

You have to type this into console -

\map mapname
mapname is the name of your map like

\map mp_backlot

I've already tried using the command line to run the map but nobody can join my game.

-I made a custom map
-I learned how to run it using the command line /map mp_mapname
-I want to know how to host it so that people can join it and play with me.

you have to run your map trough a mod. like the modwarfare mod. first you put the iwd file in the //mods/modwarfare folder then you put the folder mp_yourmap in the //usermaps folder. your friends have to do the same thing. now you can start cod4mp.exe and there you choose the modwarfare mod.

from here you can run map mp_yourmap..

other thing is that is probably the problem is that your internet connection (firewall etc.) isn't properly configured to let people play on your server. maybe try it with a vpn connection to create a online LAN network..

if you want to host fully you can add port 28960 tcp and udp and 28930 tcp and udp to ur modem and every1 can join

You only need 28960 UDP open

oh.. :s i always put udp and tcp so i dont get kicked if a host leaves :\

If the host leaves of course you're going to get kicked, who's hosting the game? Unless its a game that can change the host, but CoD4 doesn't do that and changing host would be a console thing

well it works for me :| if some1 else can host and the hoster leaves the other person becomes host :| but cant control console

Maybe because you were on a dedicated server which doesn't need a host player
