Is there an alternative way to bring up the console?
You can use the console command com_allowconsole 1 or put it in your config to enable the use of just the ~ (tilde) key. Also, you could add +set com_allowconsole 1 to the command line.

Run Doom in windowed mode when you start the edtior, and everything should be fine.

Grash: Here's a better solution using the Doom3 Comand Line.

  1. Duplicate the your Link for Doom3 and Rename it to DoomEdit.
  2. Right click on your new link and select properties
  3. In target field add the following after after the quotes:
	com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +editor

	com_allowConsole 1  --- gives console access with ~ only

+set r_fullscreen 0 --- Starts Doom3 in windowed mode
+editor --- Starts the Editor

How do I test my map.

While in the Doom III Editor use the F2 key to launch Doom III. While using the editor the Doom III game is running in the background.

When the Doom III loading screen is running use the tilde ~ key to bring up the console.

Type timedemo demo1 in the console. There is supposedly a lot of disk I/O so you should run the test again to recieve accurate results. On the first run, the disk is likely to be paged which could result in stuttering. To change resolution of the demo, use the command r_mode x, where x is the value for the resolution. An example would be r_mode 5, that is 1024x768. You also need to use the command vid_restart for this to take effect.
