Castle
Downloaded 641 times
Gametypes: DM, TDM, HQ, and BEL
Size: Large
Max # of Players Recommended: 24
Style of Map: Sniper

Map Features:

The perimeter of the map is composed of the castle walls. There is a large main keep overlooking a central courtyard. Across from the keep is a smaller fort. This creates a crossfire for team-play matches, and provides enough room for free-for-all deathmatches.

The castle walls have passageways inside them, with arrow slits evenly spaced out. You can travel around the whole map via the passageways.

There are towers spaced out along the castle walls, and they too have arrow slits.

An underground passageway connects two parts of the map, allowing movement without being seen.

There are a couple of "mini-courtyards" that are adjacent to the central courtyard.

There is a marketplace in the center of the courtyard, and a town center which provides some protection and a place to snipe from.

I decided not to create a landscape outside of the castle walls. Therefore the outside is a black void.

This map is very much tilted towards snipers. There are many spots other than what I've mentioned for them to hide in.

The passageways allow for SMGs to move around, but there is almost no room to dodge a bullet if a sharpshooter is waiting for you at the end of a passageway :)

Scripting Features:

Variable fog (fog which increases and decreses in density) as time goes by.

Scream that is sounded when a player jumps off the top of the main keep, or when a player jumps off one of the castle walls into the surrounding void. A message pops up displaying the handle of the person who jumped.

Installation Instructions:

Extract the "zzzz_user_mp_castle.pk3" file from the "castle.zip" file. Place the pk3 file in your Call of Duty\Main directory.

The name of the bsp file is "castle". Use this name if you plan to run the map from the console.

Uninstallation is performed by removal of the said pk3 file.

System Specs:

Maps tops out around 50,000 tris. FPS was typically 60+ with a couple of areas dropping to around 35-40 FPS. The garden area of the castle is the major frame rate dropper.

This was on an Athlon 64 3000 with a Radeon 9200 video card (128Mb of video RAM).
