The Sandbox2 editor comes with the Crysis demo, however it isn't automatically installed. You must install it so let me tell you where to find those install files.

First make sure that you have downloaded and installed the single player demo. You can find a download link here on MODSonline.

Now you can install the editor by launching this executable:
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Sandbox2 Installer\CryEngine(R)2 Sandbox(TM)2.msi

The installation is pretty quick.

Once installed, you will need to find the link that launches the editor. This link isn't automatically placed on your desktop or anything. So create your own desktop shortcut for this file: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin32\Editor.exe

Now you can launch the editor.

Been playing with this for sometime now (It's an inside thing...) I think this will be one of those that will either make it real big in the Mod world or fade real quick. I've been watching this for some time now and I've seen some interesting Mods out there and one of them is the Complete Conversion to Mechwarrior.

Cheers

I have been playing around with the editor. but I can't get my terrain painted well even if I follow the manual. For some reason I don't get textures to my level. I can get some colors (blue red and yellow etc..) but that is it.

can anybody explain what is going wrong?

I planned on remaking my video tutorial to cover this problem a little better. I fooled with the editor some more last night and realized that it's not that straight forward.

Basically:

- let's say you've created your terrain and now it's time to texture it.

- on the right, select the terrain tab (second tab) and then select the button for Layer Painter.

- near the bottom in the list of layers, select Default.

- above that under the "to layer" button, select the currently white box to select a new color. Select a green (or something) color and Press OK to close the window.

- now with Default still selected and the color changed, press the "to layer" button to save your changes to that layer.

--- now it's time to adjust the layer textures. that was just the base color that we adjusted ---

- select from the menu Terrain > Texture...

- select the Default layer and press Load Texture.

- select the texture here (which is a distance texture to make things uniform). I suggest beach_white_sand.dds. Press Open to make your selection and close the window.

- Press Edit Surface Type then in that window with Default selected, press Material Editor.

- Select the material to be applied to your ground. I recommend materials > terrain > plains_grass_green_and_dry

- after making your selection, close the window so you are now in the Surface Types window. Press Pick Selected to assign that material to your layer.

- Press OK to close this window and then press OK to close the Terrain Layers Editor.

--- now you can apply this texture ---

- In the terrain tab on the right, press Layer Painter

- make sure Default is the selected layer.

- adjust the Radius if needed. I usually make it VERY large to easily paint an entire island.

- paint that island or whatever you are painting.

- Generate your surface textures again.

DONE!

I hope this reads alright. I'm at work and quickly wrote it out.
